United Way of Northwest Connecticut works to strengthen our community by bringing together businesses, nonprofits, and individuals to address critical local needs. Through strategic partnerships and targeted programs, we help ensure that individuals and families across Northwest Connecticut have access to essential resources and opportunities.
In addition to investing in local nonprofit partners, United Way of Northwest Connecticut operates several in-house programs that provide direct support to the community.
Stock the Shelves addresses food insecurity by helping local food pantries maintain consistent supplies of nutritious food and household essentials. The program relies on community partnerships, volunteer support, and donations to meet year-round needs.
The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program offers free, confidential tax preparation services to eligible residents. IRS-certified volunteers help individuals and families file accurate tax returns and access important tax credits, contributing to greater financial stability and economic well-being.
Warm the Children ensures that children in need have warm winter clothing. By working with schools, social service agencies, and community partners, the program provides new coats and clothing so children can stay healthy, confident, and ready to learn during the winter months.
United Way of Northwest Connecticut also administers 2-1-1, a free, confidential, 24-hour information and referral service. By dialing 2-1-1, residents are connected to health and human services, including housing, food assistance, healthcare, and utility support.
Through these programs and partnerships, United Way of Northwest Connecticut remains committed to building a stronger, more resilient Northwest Connecticut.
